E’ Ryan Newman la sorpresa del sesto appuntamento della Nascar Sprint Cup 2012 in scena a Martinsville. Il driver dello Stewart Haas Racing s’impone inaspettatamente al termine di un finale scoppiettante che vede protagonisti Jeff Gordon e Jimmie Johnson del team Hendrick Motorsports e Clint Bowyer del Michael Waltrip Racing.
I primi due erano in testa fin quando un contatto con Bowyer non ha messo fine alle loro speranze di vittoria. Ne approfitta, dunque, Newman che conquista il primo successo dell’anno davanti ad AJ Allmendinger e a Dale Earnhardt Jr che porta qualche punticino e una piccola consolazione per il team Hendrick Motorsport salendo fino al secondo posto in classifica generale.
